Taking the time to design one’s website well before creating it ensures it will completely satisfy your needs and those of your users. By doing this reflection upfront, the actual development of your site will be faster and more efficient as you will have already planned for the essentials. This approach will prevent complex and costly changes after the site is developed, and thus be a guarantee of better profitability for your project. It can also help you to present your project efficiently to obtain funds and partnerships. OBJECTIVES Start by defining precisely the objectives of your website. Is it used to get contacts, sell products or services, increase the notoriety of your brand, or create an online community? Other? Define the topology of your website: A showcase site, an e-commerce site, a blog or other. The showcase site presents your activity and helps you to get contacts. An ecommerce site includes a payment component. A blog broadcasts information and establishes its notoriety. It can be integrated in a showcase or an e-commerce site. This exercise enables you to establish the guidelines of your project to ensure that all the subsequent steps (design, content, features…) contribute towards those objectives. By having clearly defined objectives, you will be able to evaluate the performances of your website once it is online. You can determine if changes are needed to better reach those objectives.
